Dead or Alive:
Genre: Fighting;
Console: Playstation;
Year: 1996;
Story: A runaway kunoichi known as Kasumi enters the Dead or Alive tournament to seek revenge against her uncle Raidou, who was responsible for crippling her brother Hayate. Kasumi eventually defeats and kills Raidou, but her decision to leave the village violates the strict laws of the ninja society, and as a result she becomes a hunted fugitive. (Info from the wiki) Each character has their own story, but this one is the main one of the inteir game.
Gameplay: this is a 3D fighting game. It’s your typical fighter. You pick a character, you join a tournament and you kick some ass. The button input is very similar to the one from Soul Edge. Triangle is for the punching attacks, circle is for kicking attacks, square is for defending & parry your enemies attacks (my favorite thing in this game) and X is for throws. 1 unique thing about this game, is the fact that it has explosive floor. If you throw your enemies to certain parts of a level, the floor will explode and send your opponent flying, which will allow you to make some combos. That’s all you need to know. The rest of the game has your typical modes.
Graphics: it’s not an ugly game. Sadly, the PS1 version of this game is pretty bland and boring. There’s nothing much going on in each stage. The characters look decent.
Soundtrack: honestly, the version i’ve played didn’t had music at all. I don’t know the reason behind it…but I have heard the soundtrack on Youtube and it was pretty good.
Final Thoughts: this game is extremely nostalgic. When the game was released, I was three year old. During this time, I used to go to the hospital every day, because of my decease. I remember being at the hospital, and this game was on tv. I was amazed with what I was seeing. When me and my mom left the hospital, I asked her to go to the store, and buy the game (even tho I didn’t have a Playstation 1 at this time). Sadly, I didn’t bought the game. After some months, I’ve bought a PS1. I had many Ps1 demos, and this game was in one of the disks. Obviously, I played it A LOT. When I bought my Ps2, the first game I got was Dead or Alive 2. It still annoys me that Dead or Alive 3 & 4 are Xbox exclusives, tho…Anyways, I have a lot of great memories with this game, but I have to admit, there’s better fighting games on the PS1. With that said, I will give this game an 8.5 out of 10.
